Bridging the Skills Gap – Formation of the IIS Indian Institute of Skills

Empowering India’s Youth with Future-Ready Skills Through Industry-Aligned, Hands-On Training in Advanced Manufacturing and Emerging Technologies

India, the world’s youngest nation and the largest producer of engineers, stands at a pivotal crossroads. While the country boasts a vast and growing talent pool, a significant gap persists between academic learning and the practical skills demanded by modern manufacturing industries. To address this urgent disconnect, the Government of India, in collaboration with Tata Trusts, initiated a visionary step — the formation of the Indian Institute of Skills (IIS).

This world-class institution is designed to equip India’s youth with future-ready, industry-relevant competencies. By aligning education with the evolving demands of global industries, the IIS aims to position India as a leading hub of skilled talent with great participation in worlds skills competition.

Legacy of Nation-Building: Tata Group’s Role
The Tata Group has long been a cornerstone of India’s development journey, contributing significantly through the creation of premier institutions like the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR). In healthcare, too, it has pioneered transformational facilities such as Tata Memorial Hospital and Tata Medical Centre. With the Indian Institute of Skills, the Tata legacy continues—this time with a sharp focus on bridging the skill gap that holds back millions of young Indians.

Formation of Tata Indian Institute of Skills (Tata IIS)
