The Indian machine tools industry has shown an impressive growth rate in past few years and we are expecting a similar growth in future as well. Various initiatives have been taken by the Indian Government under the ‘Make in India’ campaign to boost the manufacturing industry. With the index of industrial production touching new highs and an emphasis on capital investment by the government, the machine tool industry is all set to witness unprecedented growth in the near future.

In the present scenario HMCs, VMCs and Turning Centers are the three metal-cutting technologies which we see as the biggest drivers of demand and growth in the coming years. Nowadays, most of the shops’ machining centres are HMCs. The high level of productivity that one can achieve with an HMC, can deliver a larger and faster return on the investment. To sustain the manufacturing sector demand, there will be a consistent growth in the investment into these technologies.

The government aims to develop India into a global manufacturing centre. The fast-growing automotive and auto parts industry is witnessing an increased demand for more precision-engineered parts. These industries are expanding to cater to national and global demand and are adopting latest technologies to meet with the required pollution norms. Similarly, the defence and aerospace sector are going to see some big investments and therefore an increased demand for machine tools.

IOT, Industry 4.0, and Sensor Technology for monitoring and performance are the biggest growth drivers for the Indian metal-cutting machine tools industry. Manufacturing companies are becoming more focused on monitoring and controlling of machining activities to improve accuracies as well as make optimum utilization of machines with cutting tools, which will result in better productivity, quality and flexibility.
